Thanksgiving 2022 TOGETHER
To me, Thanksgiving has always just been an excuse to get together with family during the winter. I told my mother that I hoped they had a good day, and she said that it was kind of sad ever since I was in bed in the other room while they all gathered together in the dining room without me. My mother keeps having dreams that I walk in there and join them. The holidays mean a lot to her, but I won’t be doing that this year.
Right now my family is cooking some of the food for tomorrow like the pumpkin pies so tomorrow is less cooking and more fun. My Niece is just old enough for the holidays to be really magical and not old enough to be "over it". I would love to be with them today.
This is a hard time of year for all of us. We often either push ourselves and hurt ourselves and wind up in a big crash trying to have some family time, or we hold fast and stay under our limits and spend the day alone haunted by memories of the company of our family. Either way, I think we all carry an extra burden right now.
I want to encourage everyone not to push themselves to have a few hours of family time this Thanksgiving. It’s not worth it. The experience will come and go, it will be fleeting and as you hurt yourself to be with family, you will loose mental clarity and won’t even be able to have the experience you want to have, it will just turn into a numb fog as you run out of energy. You might not even remember much of it if you crash really badly. And then you’ll be worse for days or weeks or months or longer.
We are all in this together. So I also want to encourage everyone to reach out to the ME/CFS patients you know and check in with them and see how they are doing and talk to them if you have the energy. Let’s get through this as a community and help each other pull through the loneliness and help each other avoid pushing ourselves out of desperation for company.
Reach out to your fellow ME/CFS patients instead of pushing yourself and crashing and hold strong. We can get through this day together and avoid getting worse and if we have each other, it might not be all that bad.
Look, I even have some turkey pumping into my Jtube today! :)
Together we can help each other avoid crashing and avoid the depths of loneliness and despair. We may be alone, but we are alone together. Remember there are millions of us alone today feeling the same exact way you feel today.
Love,
Whitney
