Mother's Day 2022

Today we celebrate mothers. The one’s who bring life into this world. And with ME/CFS, because societies around the world show us nothing but neglect, with no institutional care of any kind, mothers are often the ones who must drop their lives and devote themselves to taking care of severe ME/CFS patients.

I want to publicly thank all of you ME/CFS mothers from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifice, the enduring effort, the love, and the endless pain you all endure to keep us alive. You are all heroes and someday society will see you that way.

I also want to acknowledge the pain, endurance and sacrifice that mothers go through who have ME/CFS. Mothers who have to ration the care they give to their children because of lack of energy. Mothers who can only see their children a few times a week or month or year. I’m so sorry. This kind of suffering is unacceptable and you all deserve better from this world. And so do your children. You are warriors.

Lastly, I want to pay tribute to 3 of my favorite mothers in this life.

Janet Dafoe, my mother who has dedicated her life to taking care of me and helping countless other ME/CFS patients by reaching out and offering support. She has saved so many lives and made so many people’s suffering more bearable.

Ashley Haugen, my sister who has always been there for me. And the best mother in the whole world, literally an angel sent from heaven to raise the most incredible children on earth.

Linda Neale, my Godmother who has been a big influence on my life and someone i’ve always looked up to. A constant friend throughout my life.

Note: I was pumped full of Ativan and adrenaline when I took these pictures of my arm around someone. I’ve only been able to touch another person like this 3 times since 2013 and cannot do it without both Ativan and adrenaline.
